Rosa Parks is considered to be the mother of the Civil Rights movement because of her refusal to give up her seat for a white man back in 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama. Her refusal to do so was what sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, one of the largest civil rights movement's at that time.
