Dusty and Emily first crossed paths for the actual first time when she kidnapped him and held him hostage when her part on the baby switch was about to be revealed. Dusty had wanted to press charges against her, but Jennifer, who would become his wife, convinced him not to. But after her death, he was determined to. After thinking long and hard on what she wanted, he ultimately decided to not press chargest against Emily. The judge had no choice but to let her go. Dusty had told her that he'd always be grateful for her helping to save his son's life, but he'd never forgive her for what she did to him and Jennifer. But since Emily helped Dusty get out of jail for shooting Craig, he's seen her in a different light. And he recently talked Lucinda into buying the Intruder so that Emily wouldn't have to worry about who her partner is. This is a very slow-building relationship, but if done right the foundation for a romance is there.
